"FUNDED" BENEFIT PLANS

WHAT IS A "FUNDED BENEFIT PLAN"?

A funded prescription benefit plan is one in which your Sponsor (Insurer) pays part of or all of your medication cost while you are in the plan’s "in benefit" or "covered" phase. Note: Your Sponsor may also pay all or part of your delivery charges for some international orders. You may check with your Plan Sponsor to see if this applies to you.

HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO PAY ON MY ORDER?

This will depend on your benefit’s copay structure and your benefit status. Remember: Any Rx that the administrator allows to be filled in the International pharmacy will be cheaper than the U.S. network’s retail price. You will be notified of any drugs that you ordered that should be filled in the U.S. network using your benefit card.

WHY DOESN’T THE INTERNATIONAL PHARMACY HAVE ACCESS TO MY COPAY INFORMATION?

Member copays for funded plans are not calculated until the order is processed. Therefore, even if a representative from the International pharmacy may quote you their "full retail" price, only your applicable copay portion will be applied to your credit card. Remember: Any Rx the administrator allows to be filled in the International pharmacy will be cheaper than the U.S. network’s retail price. You will be notified of any drugs that you ordered that should be filled in the U.S. network using your benefit card.

WHY DO I SOMETIMES HAVE TO CALL BOTH THE INTERNATIONAL PHARMACY AND MY PLAN’S ADMINISTRATOR?

To conform with U.S. law, you must initiate your order directly from the international pharmacy; however, in some instances, your plan’s administrator/claims processor has access to certain information that is not available to the international pharmacy – such as benefit status, covered drugs and copays.

WHAT PRESCRIPTION QUANTITY CAN I GET FROM THE INTERNATIONAL PHARMACY?

The maximum-allowed prescription amount is a "package-size adjusted" 90-day supply, which is the most cost-effective quantity for International purchases. Your Sponsor has made special allowances enabling you to obtain this amount of drug. If yours is a maintenance drug (one that you will be taking for a long time) you will want to ask your doctor to prescribe the most economical amount that is safe for you.

DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF MY PLAN TO GET A PRESCRIPTION FROM THE INTERNATIONAL PHARMACY?

If you are in your benefit’s deductible phase or if you have "capped out" of your benefit, you will need to stay within your plan’s benefit program to get your plan’s special discounted pricing from both the International pharmacy and in the U.S. retail pharmacy network - and you must also do this to get credit toward your deductible. Also, when you are "in benefit", your Sponsor will only contribute to your medication costs if you stay within your plan’s pharmacy network – and even more important, you must stay within your plan’s network so that the processor can check your total drug utilization for dangerous drug interactions.
