NON-FUNDED OR DISCOUNT CARD PLANS
WHAT IS A "NON-FUNDED OR DISCOUNT CARD Rx BENEFIT PLAN"? A non-funded or discount card program is a prescription benefit program that enables the defined membership of a plan utilizing SPCs pharmacy network and claims processor to obtain discounted prices accompanied by patient-protective measures for all of their prescriptions - whether they are obtained in the U.S. retail pharmacy network or from an International pharmacy. Members of such discount card plans pay the total cost of their medications, including any applicable postage and handling. Accessing the Expedite-Rx technological interface option of your benefit enables the application of traditional, professionally-endorsed patient-protective measures as you save money on your most expensive brand name medications from an International Pharmacy.
WHY SHOULD I FILL MOST OF MY GENERIC RXS IN MY PLANS U.S. LOCAL-RETAILER PHARMACY NETWORK? Mail-order pharmacies, whether International or the traditional US types, cannot supply U.S.-approved and available generic drugs at a cost that is competitive with your plans U.S. local-retailer network pharmacies when you use your plans benefit card.
HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO PAY ON MY ORDER? You will need to pay the entire cost of your prescription(s) as determined by your plans discounted price plus the cost of postage and handling. (Currently, from most International providers P/H is $9.95 per package). Remember: Any Rx the administrator allows to be filled in the International pharmacy will be cheaper than the U.S. networks retail price. You will be notified of any drugs that you ordered that should be filled in the U.S. network using your benefits discount card.
DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF MY PLAN TO GET A PRESCRIPTION FROM THE INTERNATIONAL PHARMACY? You need to stay within your plans benefit program to get your plans special discounted pricing from both the International Pharmacy and in the U.S. retail pharmacy network and even more importantly, you should stay within your plan so that the processor can check your total International and U.S. retail network utilization for dangerous drug interactions. You will need to talk to your plan Sponsor or representative to determine the value of other elements of their program.
WHAT PRESCRIPTION QUANTITY CAN I GET FROM THE INTERNATIONAL PHARMACY? This is determined by your physician. Your plan does not limit quantities. Generally, you will get a better price at the pharmacy for larger amounts, and the maximum-allowed 90-day supply is your most cost-effective quantity for International purchases when you access the Expedite-Rx technological interface. If yours is a maintenance drug (one that you will be taking for a long time) you will want to ask your doctor to prescribe the most economical amount that is safe for you. Many factors determine the quantity of drug to prescribe - you should discuss these with your doctor.
